Full-Time Career Programs - Masonry
Masonry Instruction in the Masonry program is reinforced through live construction projects off campus using brick, block, stone, tile and concrete.

The masonry program is designed to meet the needs of all training in masonry construction. You will receive "hands-on" experience in brick, stone, block, ceramic tile, and concrete construction. All instruction is reinforced through actual on-site projects.

EQUIPMENT USED
You will have the opportunity to use and master the following equipment: Masonry saws, mixers, rulers, levels, trowels, hammers, chisels, and scaffolding.

STRONG POINTS

  • Along with the class, you will work on live construction projects off campus using brick, block, stone, tile and concrete.
  • As a member of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), you will have the opportunity to develop important interpersonal skills. Through participation in many leadership and training activities, the opportunity to compete in local, state, national, and international contests, you will leave Meridian Technology Center ready to be a leader in the workforce.
  • The class is also supplemented with special activities such as field trips, on-the-job training opportunities, expert guest speakers, and live construction jobs.
  • The masonry program is recognized by the Accredited General Contractors (AGC) as a vocational program.

SKILLS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS
Basic math, reading, problem solving, and leadership skills, along with good eye-hand coordination, are essential for success in this program. Being a productive and cooperative, paying attention to detail, and working as team members are equally important.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The following are some of the positions of which you will be qualified upon completion of the program: brick masonry trainee, union apprenticeship, tiles setting construction, and concrete placement construction, and residential and commercial construction.

The masonry and construction fields offer the highest paying jobs for short-term training without college. Masons have the option of joining the construction workforce, one of America's largest employers, or becoming self-employed. Work hours are normally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
