Full-Time Career Programs - Automotive Technology
Automotive Technology This program is ASE certified and provides students training in a variety of ASE specialty areas.

This is the most rapidly advancing technology in the world with many opportunities for skilled technicians. The goal of this course is to train you in the areas of electrical, engine performance, air conditioning, brakes, steering, suspension systems, and basic automotive fundamentals. Basic instruction is focused on the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Task List, which is designed to meet ASE standards.

EQUIPMENT USED
You will receive training to use the following equipment: basic hand tools, power tools, diagnostic aids for trouble shooting on-board computers, lifting equipment (floor jacks, car hoists, hydraulic jacks, etc.), and photo tachometers. The Automotive Technology program offers "hands-on" experience including working with trainers, "live-work" projects, and using hand tools and special tools. Examples of the special tools that are used include live engine scopes, computer diagnostic scan tools, alignment racks, tire machines, and time balancers.

STRONG POINTS
The Automotive Technology program is ASE certified. As an adult student, you may train in specialty areas such as brakes and/or several other ASE specialty areas.

SKILLS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS
Basic math and reading comprehension skills, along with good eye-hand coordination, are essential for success in this program. Human relations skills and a willingness to learn and adapt, in this ever-changing field, are also important keys to your success.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The following are some of the positions for which you will be qualified upon completion of this program: technician in automotive or agricultural dealerships doing general repair and diagnostic work; technician in city, county, and U.S. governmental agencies (fleet applications), doing general repair and diagnostic work; and technician in tire, quick lube, brake, and muffler shops. Many of these jobs can lead to management positions such as service manager, service writer, and fleet supervisor.
