The Pre-Engineering Technology Program offers entry training
in eight basic areas of instruction: hydraulics/pneumatics,
mechanics, wiring, electricity, motors and controls, PLCs,
machining, and welding. The program is a combination of computer-based
training and hands-on activities (70 percent is hands-on)
to provide basic coverage of the full range of skills in the
greatest demand for industrial maintenance. You will learn
to maintain, troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment
used in manufacturing and processing industries. You will
also be able to plan and implement an effective preventive
maintenance system.
EQUIPMENT USED
You will learn the use of digital and analog multimeters,
clamp on ammeter, welders, engine lathe, mill, flow meters
and other specialized test instruments. You will use various
hand tools and power tools to construct working models that
demonstrate different applications.
STRONG
This program uses actual industrial equipment and "hands-on"
approach for training. These include PLC's, multimeters, oscilloscopes,
switches, and relays.
SKILLS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS
The desired basics are reading and math skills (including
fractions, formulas, and algebra), communications skills,
problem-solving skills, and primary science knowledge.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The broad-based education in Pre-Engineering Technology allows
graduates to seek employment opportunities in many different
positions. These may include: industrial maintenance technician,
electronic assembler, industrial electrician, electronics
technician, fluid power technician, mechanical maintenance
technician, residential/commercial electrician, and many other
career opportunities. These positions available offer a wide
variety of working hours and salaries.
