Business Accelerator Building underway at Oklahoma Technology and Research Park

With a flurry of ceremonial shovels, the Oklahoma Technology and Research Park achieved another milestone Friday, September 28.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held on the Park campus to officially signify the beginning of construction on the Michael S. Morgan Business Accelerator Building.

The Morgan Building will feature a multi-tenant, lab and office configuration of approximately 26,000 square feet.  The Park Board named the building in recognition of Senator Mike Morgan’s long-standing support of OTRP, in general, and his work on funding for the project, specifically.

“The Morgan Accelerator Building is a visible sign of this community’s commitment to technology-based economic development for the region,” said Dr. Andrea Kelly, OTRP Board Chair.  “Senator Morgan’s unwavering support and efforts to make this building a reality are vital elements of the Park’s current and future success.”

Occupancy of the Morgan Building is scheduled for November 2008, continuing the phased-in growth concept adopted by OTRP officials at the park’s inception in 1998.  Plans have called for completion of build-out of the complex to be accomplished over a 15-year period.

"For companies that are ready to graduate from Meridian's incubator, the Morgan Accelerator Building will be a logical next step," said Amy Polonchek, director of the CBD. "This addition to the Tech Park will further enhance the opportunities available for entrepreneurs in the region."

The Park is currently home to ICx Nomadics and the Venture I building, which houses five OSU research laboratories and two private research companies: ERIL Research and Lucas Newman Science and Technologies.

Occupying a total of 160 acres at the intersection of Highway 51 and Sangre Road, the OTRP is a joint initiative of the City of Stillwater, Meridian Technology Center and Oklahoma State University.

The site is master-planned for 1 million square feet of lab, office and support space for high tech companies, OSU research activities, and supporting amenities.  Tenant companies will eventually employ more than 2,000 people from the Stillwater area.

The Park employs a clustered, campus-style plan designed to facilitate interaction and collaboration between research and business and features fully redundant telecommunications systems and offers access to the National LambdaRail high-speed data network.
